Finding your path in orthopedic surgery can feel like a long race. You need endurance, a clear goal, and support along the way. Imagine having a mentor in your corner, someone who has run the course before. That’s the idea behind YourMedMom. This program is built to support new surgeons and those wanting to become surgeons. It focuses on career growth and personal well-being. I started it with a simple belief: when you lift others, everyone moves forward.
Meet Dr. Vani Sabesan, MD
My name is Dr. Vani Sabesan. I am an orthopedic surgeon practicing in Palm Beach, Florida. My journey in medicine took me across the country for training, where I met amazing people along the way. My experiences have helped me build a deep well of knowledge and experience.
My Educational Journey
My path in medicine began at Duke University where I complete by undergraduate degree. When it came time for medical school, I returned home to the Midwest, where I earned my medical degree at Indiana University in Indianapolis. My orthopedic surgery residency brought me back to Duke and then I finished my advanced training with a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. Living and working in these different regions gave me a front-row seat to how the country’s best healthcare systems operate. That deep, diverse well of experience is exactly what I draw from every day when treating my patients.
My Surgical Specialty and Philosophy
While my clinical focus is shoulder and elbow surgery, I also practice sports medicine. As a lifelong athlete with 28 marathons and an Ironman triathlon under my belt, I know exactly how vital movement is to our happiness and well-being. Being fit and active isn’t a hobby; it’s a way of life. That’s why I’m so passionate about my work in Palm Beach. I get to use my medical expertise to help others overcome injuries, regain their strength, and get back to doing what they love most.
The Core Idea Behind YourMedMom
Your Med Mom is more than a program. It is a legacy project born from my career philosophy. The core idea comes from a lesson my parents taught me: if you give, you will get.
Lifting Others as You Climb
True success is not a solo act. It is about bringing people up with you. You carry them on your shoulders so they can see further ahead. One of my mentees asked an important question. Why not offer this kind of support to more people? Many aspiring surgeons don’t have someone to guide them through hard times, or cheer them on no matter what. Your Med Mom aims to fill that gap.
The Mission of Support
The mission of YourMedMom is to be by your side. We want to be there for you throughout your career in orthopedics. Our goal is to see you succeed in every part of your life. This includes finding the right balance for you. Success means doing well in your studies and training. It also means having a rich life outside the hospital.
We want to give you the tools to bring your family and friends along on your journey. Leadership in medicine is important. So is leadership in your own life. YourMedMom is here to help you build both.
Why Orthopedic Surgery Needs Mentorship
Orthopedic surgery is a demanding field. The training is long. The hours can be hard. Having a guide makes a big difference. A mentor provides more than just medical advice.
A mentor offers:
- Career guidance based on real experience.
- Emotional support during difficult times.
- A model for balance between work and personal life.
- A network of professional connections.
My own path shows the value of great training. It also shows the importance of support. Moving from Duke to Indiana to Cleveland taught me a lot. It also showed me how helpful a supportive community can be.
Building a Fulfilling Career and Life
YourMedMom focuses on the whole person. Being a great surgeon is one part of the picture. Being a fulfilled individual is the other. Here is what we believe a balanced career looks like.
Academic and Surgical Success
Success starts with a strong foundation in knowledge and skill. YourMedMom helps you navigate the academic path. We help you from medical school through fellowship. The goal is to give you confidence in the operating room and beyond.
Personal Well-being and Fitness
As an athlete, I know fitness is key to a long career. Surgery is physically hard. Staying strong and healthy helps you perform at your best. It also improves your quality of life. We encourage habits that keep you active and energized.
Leading a Full Life
Your career is just one chapter of your story. A truly successful life includes family, friends, and personal growth. YourMedMom provides tools to manage your time. We help you make space for the people and activities that matter most to you.
Join a Community That Cares
The journey to becoming an orthopedic surgeon is a marathon, not a sprint. It requires the same dedication, training, and heart as my 28 marathons. You don’t have to run that race alone.
YourMedMom is built on a powerful idea. We rise by lifting others. This program is my way of giving back. It is a way to share the support that helped me. We want to be the cheering voice for a new generation of surgeons. We want to help you find success on your own terms.
